 Our Mission….

The mission of the Hershey Community Chorus is to promote fellowship and choral education among its members and provide our audience with a memorable experience.

The HCC has been an integral part of the Hershey Community for 75 years.  Hershey Theatre has been its primary performing home since 1967.  The Chorus continues to provide music to the Hershey community as well as providing the opportunity for people to come together and be part of a non audition music group.  Our membership includes individuals from the immediate Hershey area as well as Harrisburg, Lebanon, Mechanicsburg, Etters and Elizabethtown.  The Chorus is one of the largest of these known groups in the Central Pennsylvania  Region.

The Chorus is a non-profit organization and relies upon membership fees, ticket sales, contributions from the community, member fundraising and volunteers to cover the cost of each concert.  These costs include such things as rehearsal facility rental, Hershey Theatre rental, stagehand fees, sound equipment rental, piano and organ tuning, program printing, advertising, sheet music, guest performers, producer and director fees, liability insurance and various taxes.

In addition to its two annual concerts, the Chorus will perform upon invitation at outside events.  Past events include:

The Candle-lighting Ceremony at  Hersheypark’s  Christmas Candylane

The Hershey Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Fall Hershey Garden Fest

The Spring Harrisburg Artfest

M.S. Hershey Birthday Stamp Celebration

James J. Hoffmann has been the Musical Director since the fall of 1986.  He is also the Director of Music at Cedar Cliff High School.  He earned his B.S. and M.A. degrees in music education from Indiana University of PA, with additional study at Arizona State University, Northwestern University, and the University of Colorado.  His graduate work has focused on musical theatre direction and choral conducting.

During his tenure with the Chorus, the focus has been on offering a wide variety of quality shorter choral works.  Programming a mix of A Cappella and accompanied pieces, Mr. Hoffmann often engages guest musicians and soloists.  He has also conducted members of the Chorus on trips to Europe and the British Isles.

Susan “Sue” Sipe, has been the Producer since August 2007.   Sue was a member of the chorus from 1988 to 1989 and she rejoined the Chorus in August 2005.  She was an Interim Board Member for 2006-2007.

As a Board Member she took over the responsibility of the Program Cover design, publicity and advertising.  In August 2007 she was hired as the Producer.

In addition to producing, Sue continues to manage the publicity and advertising, designs the program, and designs and maintains our website.
